05 May IDF Tastemakers: Rachel Horn, A Design Visionary Bending Borders
Rachel Horn is an international design muse who has called Austin home, while still operating out of her workshop in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Her rich design approach, worldly perspectives and exclusive clientele more than qualify this blond bombshell as one of our IDF Tastemakers. Here’s why…
Hometown: San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Austin
Favorite Trend: “Black and White. It’s my favorite combination for interiors and fashion. It’s crisp, clean and current. Though it’s a trend right now, it’s absolutely classic. I Love the extreme.”
Biggest Inspiration: “Travel. It’s all about the unexpected: The treasures I find, the people I meet and the wild experiences that happen are my greatest inspiration.”
Biggest Professional Accomplishment: “A stunning private residence on the Pacific Coast of Mexico called Isla Navidad. This project is a combination of every aspect of design I am passionate about. We did the architectural and interior design. We designed and built almost every piece of furniture, lighting, and accessories for the project, all the way down to creating a set of one-of-a-kind dishware. It was the culmination of my entire life experience, expressed in design.”

Personal Milestone: “Burning Man. It completely changed my life and shifted the way I think about both my personal life and career. To be exposed, physically and emotionally, in extreme conditions surrounded by thousands of people expressing their creativity totally blew my mind. I didn’t make it out there this year and all I can say is that I really hope that never happens again.”
Next Big Project: “A super sexy little hotel project on the East Side of Austin.”
