Hokusai Great Wave Watch from The Met Museum

It’s time to make some waves. Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese, 1760-1849) mastered painting and printmaking styles and techniques from a vast range of sources. Our watch displays details from Under the Wave off Kanagawa, also known as The Great Wave, ca. 1830-32, from A Series of Views of Mt. Fuji in The Met collection; it is one of the most enduring images in Japanese art. The watch features a printed band and a quartz movement.
