Korean Spice Viburnum Shrubs (Viburnum carlesii) is a truly breathtaking shrub when in bloom, clothed in snowy white fragrant flowers. It has attractive horizontal branching and good fall color, making it a fantastic specimen shrub. Korean Spice Viburnum is draped in stunning white daphne-like flowers held atop the branches in mid-spring. The black fruits are held in abundance in spectacular clusters from mid summer to early fall. It has dark green foliage throughout the season. The serrated pointy leaves turn an outstanding maroon red in the fall. Korean Spice Viburnum is a multi-stemmed semi-evergreen shrub with a shapely form and gracefully arching branches. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition. This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season’s flowers. The Korean Spice shrub is a good choice for attracting birds to your yard, but is not particularly attractive to deer who tend to leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. It has no significant negative characteristics.
