Aruncus dioicus or Goatsbeard is a fantastic native perennial with large, fine-textured feathery blooms in late spring resemble a large Astilbe. Aruncus plants can reach a spread of4 feet or more when sited correctly. It is lovely when used at the edge of the woods, where the white plumes are highlighted against the woodland’s dark background. In the northern part of its range, Aruncus Dioicus is far more tolerant of the hot afternoon sun than in the Southern part. Although they prefer partial shade and consistent moisture, a moist sunny site will work well in cooler climates. Goat’s beard will survive periods of drought, but the foliage will brown around the edges during periods of drought.
