The Helleborus Pine Knot Series is a selection of unbloomed seedlings in mixed colors of the best single and semi-double hybrid hellebores. These unique winter-blooming flowers were developed by Judith and Dick Tyler of Pine Knot Farms in Clarksville, Virginia. A large variety of color combinations and patterns. Easily grown in organically rich, fertile, humusy, alkaline, medium moisture, well-drained soils in part shade to full shade. Prefers light to moderate shade. Although the foliage is evergreen, it is important you protect the foliage during inclement weather and harsh winters. Cut back flowering stems after bloom to promote new foliage growth. Established plants that become congested may be divided in late summer to early fall. Hybrid hellebores are often grown from seed, but plants will take two years to bloom when grown from seed. Hybrid hellebores, sometimes commonly called hybrid Lenten roses, are bushy, clump-forming perennials that typically grow to 12 to 15 inches tall. They are noted for producing single, cup-shaped flowers with overlapping petals. Flowers bloom in a large variety of colors, including various shades of white, pink, red, purple, and yellow. Bloom typically commences in mid to late winter, extending into early spring. Flowers appear at the tips of branched stems clad with evergreen dark green leaves. Ideal in use as a groundcover planting, yard borders, and container gardens, the Pine Knot Hellebore is extremely versatile. The flowering specimen will surely steal your heart year after year.
