Venetian Foliate Placemat Set from The Met Museum

Our elegant placemats echo the decorative registers of an Italian woodcut (1567) designed by Giuseppe Salviati (Giuseppe Porta, called Il Salviati) (Italian, ca. 1520-1575) and published by Giovanni Ostaus (Italian, ca. 1554-91). Featuring on page 18 of La Vera Perfettione del Disegno di varie sorti di recami, the motifs showcase floral and foliate patterns in solid white and shaded gray.
