Standing Monk Sculpture from The Met Museum

$450.00

This dignified monk was reproduced from an intriguing bronze figure in The Met collection. The original was made in the late sixth century during the short-lived Sui dynasty (581-618), an influential period when China was unified after four centuries, and Buddhism was fostered by the emperor. The figure, with right hand raised, was probably once part of a larger grouping of images that included a central Buddha. Such figures, either generic images or representations of historical disciples, often accompany a Buddha and his attendant bodhisattvas. Our handsome reproduction was cast from a mold made directly from the original.
