Featured on this collaged paper and hand-blown glass plate is The Disputed Prize (1868-78), a hand-colored lithograph by Currier & Ives (American, 1857-1907). A fallen peach on a garden path attracts three small finches with short beaks and striped wings; overhead, leafy boughs frame the roof of a charming Gothic Revival cottage. Adapted from the Museum’s Department of Drawings and Prints, this art-inspired design was made exclusively for The Met by John Derian. Based in New York City, Derian’s workshop is celebrated for his unique decoupage creations featuring hand-blown glass.
